The one key difference between event management and construction management is the time frame. An event is temporary, while a construction project is permanent.
In an event management role, you are likely to be working with a group of people who are all focused on one goal: creating a successful event. The main objective of event management is to coordinate all the details of an event so that it runs smoothly, successfully, and on time. Once the event is completed, the event goers leave, the event site is reinstated to its original condition, and that marks the end of the event.
In contrast, in construction management, you are managing the process of building something permanent—a building or structure that will be there for years to come. You must ensure that the project is completed safely and on schedule while also ensuring that environmental and safety regulations are met at every step in the process. The building structure is there to exist. The aesthetics may change over time, but the building continues its operation as long as the land and authorities permit.
With that, the life cycle of an event vs. a construction project differs greatly, as temporary structures have an expiry date, whereas buildings are constructed to last permanently.
