#2. It’s a minor role in construction. A lot of people still consider quantity surveying to be a minor role in construction. Well, it isn’t! Construction and engineering projects are fairly expensive endeavours and quantity surveyors play a crucial role in getting maximum quality for minimum cost.

#3. Quantity surveying only requires mathematical expertise. Quantity Surveying is widely misunderstood as just a number crunching job. If maths is not your forte, fear not. Quantity surveyors also need to have good project management skills to work with a team of engineers and stakeholders.

#4. Anyone can be a quantity surveyor. Incorrect. One needs to have undergone extensive professional training to be able to become a quantity surveyor. It is also very important that you are certified and licensed as a quantity surveyor before you can practice in your country.

#5. The job scope is boring. Contrary to common myths, quantity surveying is an interesting career path with future prospects as good as in other professions.
